ArtsCare Planning Roundtables Spring 2009
The Okanagan Institute has been consulting on how best to move forward with a plan for an ArtsCare initiative in the Okanagan. Our goal is to facilitate the formation of a core group of individuals determined to determine a proactive strategy for increasing awareness and understanding of:
» the need for the integration of arts and health for personal wellbeing, community wellness and healing
» arts programs that have proven successful within care facilities in other locations
» the resources available within the Okanagan
» the need for implementation of ArtsCare programs within existing Okanagan facilities.
We invite those who have heard of our initiative to seek out others who might also be interested and plan to attend the organisational meetings to be held at:
» Vernon: Community Arts Centre, Polson Park
Friday February 27, 5pm
» Kelowna: Okanagan College, KLO Campus
Wednesday March 4, 5pm
The agenda for these meetings will be to get firm commitment from a core group prepared to increase their understanding of ArtsCare, consult together and formulate strategy on how best to advocate with Interior Health and health care facilities within the Okanagan.
We remind you once again of the words of Vancouver MD, Gabor Maté: "The potential for wholeness health, resides in all of us. Everyone has the urge to create. Its expression may flow through many channels. The point is to honour the urge. To do so is healing for ourselves and for others; not to do so deadens our bodies and our spirits."
Please let's work together to better use the power of this human resource. The Okanagan needs your energy and ideas to make ArtsCare happen.
Those planning to attend should RSVP by email or through the form below, before February 25. With your response please include a short bio including your particular area of interest related to ArtsCare, and affiliations you feel might be helpful to the committee's goals.
